Want a way to straighten your teeth without the hassle of an orthodontic brace?

It is now possible to get a straighter smile with an invisible appliance known as Invisalign, and at Byfleet Dental, we are more than happy to offer it!

After all, our dentist in West Byfleet knows all that there is to know about Invisalign and can offer clear guidance on whether this aligner is the right option for straightening your teeth.

Here, our dentist in West Byfleet answers key questions that we receive about Invisalign.

How long does Invisalign take to work?

Our dentist in West Byfleet can give you a rough estimate of how long it will take Invisalign to work for you.

On average, this aligner takes between 3-6 months to straighten teeth, but this will vary depending on the severity of the misalignment.

Are the aligners uncomfortable to wear?

Many people who have worn braces earlier in life describe Invisalign as being a comfortable treatment.

This is because Invisalign aligners do not rely on pulling the teeth in the same way that braces do to move them; they gently push them into their new position.

But, whilst they are more comfortable to wear, you may still find that they apply pressure that can cause discomfort after you change between aligners. This discomfort should be easy to mitigate with over-the-counter pain relievers. If the aligners cause excessive amounts of discomfort, then contact our team.

Can aligners treat an overbite?

They may be able to, but this will depend on the severity of the misalignment.

For some cases of overbite, Invisalign can help to push the teeth back into a more aesthetically appealing bite. However, should you have a more complex overbite or need to have issues corrected with your molar teeth, we may recommend a fitted brace.

The only way to know whether you are suitable for Invisalign is to attend a free consultation with our team at Byfleet Dental. This will allow us to assess your suitability and discuss the most suitable options for orthodontic treatment.

Can I smoke whilst wearing Invisalign?

You can, but we would typically advise against it.

There are several reasons for this; for one thing, the nicotine in cigarettes can cause the aligners to discolour, making them appear yellow, orange or even brown. In that case, they wouldn’t be invisible for very long!

Also, smoking increases the risk of developing gum disease, which can cause your teeth to move and fall out. So, to avoid such issues, we often advise our patients to not smoke whilst wearing aligners.

Can I afford Invisalign?

Many people worry that they will not be able to afford treatment with Invisalign, and so, they do not seek out information about it.

But at Byfleet Dental, we can offer a free consultation for all our patients who are interested in Invisalign and answer any questions that you may have about the treatment.
